"Peace cannot be kept by force, it can only be achieved by understanding”
We constantly seek new and innovative approaches to promote student engagement in a way to bring about positive changes. Celebrating International Peace Day at Unity College allowed students to understand the importance of creating and maintaining peace amongst themselves, families, and their surroundings.
Peace Day was celebrated in our school on 21st September, 2022. The students of class Prep hosted the programmein the general assembly. The students gave a warm welcome to all gathered. They enraptured and enlightened the audience by presenting before them slogans along with the placards.
The next segment was a group poem "Hug O' War" by Shel Silverstein which thrilled the audience followed by a couple of thoughts on "How to be a Peacemaker" which were thought provoking and deeply fascinated the audience.
The Principal, Mr. Francis Castelino ended the assembly by urging the students to imbibe the values of love, harmony and non-violence and to become instruments of peace. He also highlighted that peace means a world of happiness and harmony without any bias. Inspiring the students to resolve to be better persons in their homes and neighbourhood so that the country can radiate peace.
As a part of this endeavour, Unity College also organised Peace Day Celebration through a variety of hands-on activities for the children which they enjoyed thoroughly. Class Prep students made a Dove, a bird which is a symbol of peace with their hand impressions.
In another activity, Upper Nursery and Lower Nursery children were directed to make the symbol of Peace with paints, ice cream sticks and paper plates.
Children were also explained the importance of celebrating Peace Day in the classes. In a general conversation that was held, the children came up with innocent suggestions to maintain Peace around them.
