Our Nation celebrates 75 years of Freedom from British Colonial rule enthusiastically and deepens our connection with the National Flag with the ongoing ‘HarGhar Tiranga’ campaign launched by the Ministry of Culture. The year-long festive exultation ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’, the Government’s initiative, encompassed tributes to freedom heroes, novel ideas and resolutions to navigate collective endeavours to lead Mother India achieve milestones. Unity College decked in colours of freedom joined the National celebrations.
The Students and Faculty of Unity College with its sister institutions - Unity College II Shift, Unity Training Centre and Unity Veda Animation College congregated to commemorate the Independence Day. Chief Guest Mr. Aftab Ahmad Khan - IPS, IG (Retd.) CRPF hoisted the Trio-colour, followed by his proud salute while the patriotic notes of the National Anthem echoed in the premises.
Addressing the students, Mr. Khan said India boasts of its Democracy, and we can strengthen it if we keep the nation above our personal interests. College Secretary Mr. Najmul Hasan Rizvi advised the students to excel in character, education and their careers, and above all to become good citizens. Only then, will they be able to offer their best services for the progress of the country.
The charismatic bouquet of presentations touched every cord with the love and service to the Nation. FatimaAlam of Unity College took the dais to deliver a speech in English on the occasion. She offered a solemn tribute to the valiant freedom fighters whose indomitable courage and incredible sacrifice brought freedom to India. She said that the world has always looked at India for its ‘Unity in Diversity’. Now it is our duty to sustain that integrity and brotherhood. Then the choir group recited Rabindra Nath Tagore’s famous poetry ‘Where the Mind is Without Fear' in a very impressive manner. The earnest prayer sensitised the audience with the new and awakened India, that is, political freedom is not enough, and we need a fearless mind held high with dignity and self-expression besides freedom from social injustice, illiteracy, corruption and intolerance.
Next, Wara Fatima of Unity College II Shift presented a speech in Urdu. She also sparked a wave among her fellow students for a good human being and excellence in education. She concluded ‘WafadariWatan se Ho,Yahi Islam Kehta Hai, HamareDilKeHarGhosle Mein Hindustan Rahta Hai’. It was followed by a poignant skit that brought home the true glimpse of the life of our brave Army Men.
Addressing the students, Joint Secretary Dr. M. Talha said that we are touching the pinnacle of success in these 75 years of Independence. Now it is our duty to safeguard our hard earned Freedom and our wisely drafted Constitution and that is possible through good education alone. Managing Committee Member and Administrator Unity ITI, Mr. Syed Karrar Asghar Zaidi quoted Gandhiji and said that we got freedom from the British rule, still much work is left to free India from illiteracy, backwardness and caste system. He stressed on freedom of mind and ignorance.
Principal Mr. Francis Castelino proposed a vote of thanks to all the dignitaries present at the occasion. In his message to the students, he rejuvenated them, saying that as our great fighters were infused with the Amrit of the Country’s Freedom, our future generation needs to reinfuse the same Amrit to fight for their rights, education and stand for what is right to lead the Nation to the top most place in the World.
The occasion coincided with Van Mahotsav. The dignitaries planted saplings in the premises to make the College green and clean.
Last but not the least was the Students’ Tiranga Yatra that resounded in the vicinity with national slogans ‘Hindustan Zindabad’ and' Vande Matram’. The students, NCC Cadets, teachers and office staff holding the Tiranga marched to the Clock Tower and back to College. It generated patriotic fervour and passers-by joined the high spirit with loud expressions.
The Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav concluded with sweet distribution.
