On April 15 and 16, 2025, Unity College hosted two engaging career exploration sessions led by Mr Gulamhusain Ahmed, College Tutor in Mathematics and Fundamentals of Engineering at Lehigh Carbon Community College and Stanford University, USA. With a strong background as a Project Manager at KGB, Process Quality Engineer at ATAS International, and Project Quality Manager at Bell Labs, Mr Ahmed brought a wealth of global experience in project delivery, process improvement, and training.
The first session on April 15was attended by Mr Ahmed’s wife, Ms Habiba Ahmed, Principal Mr Deepak Mervyn Mathews, Vice Principal Mr Sachindra Bharti, College Counsellor Ms Nisar Fatima Rizvi, and Senior Secondary teachers Ms Leena Shukla, Mr Inkit Panjabi, Ms Sarah Abbas, Mr Mirza Saif Husain, and Ms Masroor Fatima Abdi. Mr Ahmed shared highlights of his career journey, transitioning from Bell Labs to academia, and introduced participants to career planning via the College Board website.
He guided attendees through a 60-question career quiz assessing six domains—Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, and Conventional—leading to over 900 career suggestions across 16 clusters. Results were filterable by educational levels (Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctorate), and each career option included data on qualifications, income, and projected growth. These practical exercises provided teachers with tools to better support students and empowered students to explore diverse career options with clarity.
On April 16, a student-focused session saw Mr Ahmed interact with Class XII students on future career planning. Principal Mr Mathews introduced Mr Ahmed and Ms Ahmed, acknowledging their accomplishments. Vice Principal Mr Bharti extended a warm welcome and expressed appreciation for their presence.Mr Ahmed opened with reflective questions such as: What is your favourite sport and why? When do you stop learning? Who is your most admired Indian personality? Why do you want to go to university? The students’ responses led to enriching discussions that helped them explore their values, motivations, and aspirations.
A Q&A session followed, encouraging students to voice questions and receive thoughtful guidance. Mr Bharti urged students to make the most of opportunities in their chosen streams. Tuba Ahmad of Class XII-C delivered a vote of thanks, and Principal Mathews presented saplings to Mr and Ms Ahmed as tokens of appreciation.
The sessions concluded on an inspiring note, leaving students motivated to pursue meaningful career paths.
