LUCKNOW NAGAR NIGAM: SPREADING AWARENESS ON VECTOR-BORNE DISEASES

On October 9, 2024, officials from the Lucknow Nagar Nigam headed by Zonal Officer Mr Manoj Kumar Yadav visited the College to raise awareness about the rapid spread of vector-borne diseases, especially during the monsoon season. The event, aimed at educating students on prevention methods, was attended by Principal Mr Deepak Mervyn Mathews, Vice Principal Mr Sachindra Bharti, Headmistress Ms Kainaat Mansoor, College Counsellor Ms Nisar Fatima, and Primary teachers. The awareness session was specifically addressed to students from classes IV and V.

Mr Yadav highlighted the rise in diseases like dengue and malaria due to the increase in mosquito populations during the monsoon. He emphasised that dengue has no cure and prevention is key, advising students to wear full-sleeved clothes and fully covered shoes to protect themselves. Mr Yadav praised the College's uniform design, which ensures students are better protected during the rainy season due to its long sleeves and full-length pants.Further, he spoke about the importance of covering water containers to prevent mosquito breeding, referencing cultural practices that encourage covering water to avoid contamination. He urged students to keep their school premises clean and report any areas of concern, particularly near trees and drains where mosquitoes thrive.

Mr Yadav also led the students in a motivational self-composed song, ‘Ladenge ham, Jeetenge ham, ChaheJitniChunauti Ho,’ which the children sang with enthusiasm. He explained the dangers of standing water, such as water collected from air conditioners or refrigerators, and instructed the students to check these areas regularly. Mr Yadav warned that even one mosquito could spread dengue throughout the school.

Finally, the event included an interactive Q&A session where students learnt about the conditions under which dengue and malaria mosquitoes breed. Mr Yadav stressed the importance of staying vigilant at home as well, applying mosquito repellent, and ensuring family members, especially younger siblings, are protected. The visit concluded with The Vice Principal Mr Bharti thanking Nagar Nigam, Lucknow and Mr Yadav for conducting such an informative session and also emphasised on the message that simple actions, like covering water and cleaning surroundings, can prevent dangerous diseases from spreading.
