Unity College, immersed in patriotic fervour, assembled on the main ground to celebrate the 78th Independence Day. The College, together with its sister branches—Unity College, Unity College II Shift, Unity Technical Training Centre, and Unity Veda Animation College—joined the nationwide celebration of liberty, sovereignty, and prosperity.
The Chief Guest for the occasion was Dr Mohammad Qaim Rizvi, Neonatologist at Era Medical College and an alumnus and former Head Boy of the College. The tricolour was hoisted by College Secretary Mr Najmul Hasan Rizvi, accompanied by the College fraternity—Jt Secretary Dr M Talha, Principal Mr Deepak Mathews, Vice Principal Mr Sachindra Bharti, Headmistress Ms Kainaat Mansoor, Principal II Shift Ms Shabana Ahmad, Principal Technical Centre Mr S R Khan, Director Unity Veda Mr S Kalbe Mehdi, and Academic Advisor Unity Education Programme Ms Tehseen Zaidi.
Dr Qaim Rizvi encouraged the students never to fear failure, as it often inspires success in future attempts. He emphasised that he values his ability to save lives and serve society over his designation.
Mr Najmul Hasan Rizvi highlighted that Independence Day is not merely a celebration but a time to prepare ourselves for the ongoing struggle against poverty, ignorance, and corruption.
Dr M Talha elucidated various aspects of true patriotism, stating that joining the Army is not the only path; being a good human—truthful, honest, and righteous—is equally important.
A delightful array of cultural programmes was presented by the students of Unity College and the II Shift. The celebration commenced with a remarkable speech by Arsh Husain of UN, Montessori Section, II Shift, followed by a Sanskrit skit titled ‘Desh Bhakta Chandrashekharah’. This mesmerising performance highlighted the patriotic fervour and bravery of the 16-year-old Chandra Shekhar Azad, who endured severe punishment after the Non-Cooperation Movement. Inspiring speeches were delivered by Abida Naqvi and Mohd Aun of XII B in English and Hindi, emphasising the significance of Independence and the crucial role of youth in the nation's progress. Their words ignited a sense of responsibility among the young minds. Lastly, the English skit explored the evolving perspectives of youngsters towards the sacrifices made by freedom fighters and emphasised the need to reaffirm the importance of their invaluable contributions.
The day of Indian pride concluded with a vote of thanks by Principal Mr Deepak Mathews, followed by the distribution of sweets, symbolising the sweetness of freedom and the unity of devoted Indians.
The occasion also coincided with the eco-friendly initiative of Van Mahotsav. The event was marked by the planting of saplings on the campus, contributing to a greener and cleaner India.
